Daintree Tours

Cairns tours are well renowned for their wonderful service and ability to make your trip a memorable one. This local company has partnered with other amazing locals to bring you the best North Queensland has to offer. One those companies are Walkabout Cultural Adventures and their Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime Walk. Offered as part of their Daintree walkabout tour this highly unique experience takes you into the rainforest, to privately owned land where you can learn all about bush tucker and the indigenous people that live there.

With authentic aboriginal guides from the Kuku Yalanji people sharing their secrets of the rainforest, this is an opportunity not to be missed. These wonderful men and women are welcoming and approachable but don’t just take our word for it. Here is what some adventurers had to say about the experience.

Walkabout Cultural Adventures

Highly interactive, the 1.5 hour walk takes you past traditional bark huts, to see cave painting and learn about their significance, as well as hearing dreaming stories related to the local area. You even get to catch your own lunch as you try your hand at spearfishing and catching blue crabs, pipis and razor clams or cook poisonous beans. This particular adventure teaches you about the relationship the Kuku Yalanji people have with the rainforest and what different plants are used for.

There is tea and damper with your guide after the walk, where they will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Seeing the beautiful and hostile rainforest through the eyes of those who have lived in it for thousands of years, gives you a unique picture to add to your fond memories. It is an intimate setting of sharing and educating with some of the stories involving the guides very own family members, which really makes you feel included and a part of the landscape. There is also the option of taking a swim in a beautiful secluded creek.
All walking tracks are graded as easy so you do not have to be an experienced hiker to participate. The Daintree Tour is family friendly tour, fun for all ages and a great addition to any bucket with memories that will last a lifetime.

In conjunction with this once in a lifetime walk, Cairns Tours then takes its guests to Silky Oaks Lodge for a barramundi lunch. This beautiful location overlooks the Mossman river and is perfect for relaxing and chatting before you head off to the next part of the tour. Some dress codes to apply so keep that in mind when packing for the day.
