Journey north along the scenic Great Barrier Reef Drive from Cairns with your experienced Adventure North Aboriginal guide after being picked up from your hotel.
MOSSMAN GORGE
First stop is Mossman Gorge Centre where you are greeted with a traditional Aboriginal smoking ceremony. Your guide will accompany you via shuttle bus into the rainforest of Mossman Gorge itself for an interpretive walk where you will learn about the culture and history of the Kuku Yalanji people, as well as their special relationship with the environment here.
LUNCH
When you arrive back to the Centre, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Mayi Café, situated at the edge of the rainforest.
From here, there are two itinerary options you can choose to book:
OPTION Traditional Aboriginal Fishing
This experience includes a 2 hour coast and cultural walk at Cooya (Kuyu Kuyu) Beach with a Kubirri Warra clan member. Cooya Beach is the traditional fishing grounds of the Kuku Yalanji Rainforest people, and your guide will demonstrate and teach you traditional fishing and gathering techniques like catching crab in this unique eco-system where coastal reef, beach and mangrove areas come together. Enjoy homemade damper on the idyllic Cooya Beach.

OPTION Aboriginal Art & Culture
This experience includes a 1.5 hour art class at Janbal Gallery with Aboriginal artist Binna Swindley. Paint your own canvas using techniques you learn, while Binna shares stories about his culture and its history, and well as how Aboriginal stories are shared through art. After the class, learn about the ancient Aboriginal ‘highways’ that run through the Shannonvale region that connected the different regions for the local people.
At the end of the day, your guide will return you to your hotel.
