So, you want to experience the beauty of Tropical North Queensland’s natural environment. You’d like to see the lush, ferny forest, rugged mountaintops and sparkling waterfalls of Cairns. AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping – the architects of modern bungy – have worked around Cairns’ natural environment in order to bring you a heady mix of beauty and thrills at Australia’s first bungy jumping site. There’s nowhere better to experience an adrenaline rush, so strap in, take a deep breath and give in to the feeling that no human was ever meant to experience safely!
As you steel yourself at the top of a 50-metre bungy jumping tower, you’ll be able to take in the stunning views over the Northern Beaches and the Great Barrier Reef. If you can muster up the courage to jump (which you should have no problem with, as the friendly and professional staff are great encouragers), you’ll freefall over the top of a crystal, cool pond, before the bungy cord gently prevents your impact. You can choose a head or hand dunk too, which is an awesome experience to end your thrill on – particularly on a hot Cairns day!
Afterwards, enjoy coming down from your adrenaline high while relaxing in the bungy centre’s bar, below the bungy jumping platform.
A Different Kind of High
If the thought of hurling yourself off a 50-metre platform sounds like your worst nightmare, but you’d still like to see North Queensland from above, then maybe an Atherton Tablelands Hot Air Ballooning experience is more your thing.
After an early-morning pick-up from your Cairns accommodation, you’ll be whisked to the launch site, just in time to see your balloon being inflated. Once aboard your hot air balloon, you’ll be gently lifted above the shadowed treetops, into the cool morning air. As the birds begin to chirp their morning melodies, you’ll experience the golden sunrise from one of the most amazing vantage points in the world!
For half an hour, you’ll witness the 360° patchwork of verdant and brown below you shift out of the shadows of night and into the glorious vista of rolling mountain range in the distance, and sweeping plains below. It’s no wonder this part of the Great Dividing Range is considered a photographers dream. You’ll be provided with binoculars to aid you in spotting the creatures of the morning, including kangaroos and some amazing bird life. Finally, you’ll descend again and be escorted back to your accommodation, onto your next tour, or to a recommended local breakfast spot.
