Cairns Tours : Christmas and New Year Adventures

By James Dixon | 23rd December 2014

With the festive part of the year drawing ever closer, it’s a perfect time to start thinking of how to create some amazing experiences that will add pages to your memory bank – and not just memories of Uncle John sipping a little too much Christmas cheer, or those of the family trying to explain Trivial Pursuit to Nanna for half the day. Get yourself out and about and into explorer mode by giving Cairns a try.

The Cairns region holds the key to a glorious adventure by representing everything that people flock to Australia for. With stunning beaches and oceans (home of the Great Barrier Reef) and glorious rainforest retreats (home of the Daintree National Park) this part of Australia is the perfect setting to holiday, explore and excite your senses.

One of the primary drawcards of this fascinating region is its wildlife, and this area is teeming with it! The Great Barrier Reef, for instance, is one of the world’s largest thriving ecosystems, replete with amazing colourful corals, tropical sea life and splendid birdlife. At Cairns Tours, Barrier Reef expeditions are our specialty and we offer you the change to swim, scuba and snorkel with these living wonders of nature, or watch them from the deck or glass-bottom of a luxurious vessel. All this for unbeatable prices!

Another Cairns native is the fearsome and awe-inspiring estuarine crocodile. This ancient reptile exists in impressive numbers in the wild of Cairns; however, you’ll probably feel safer viewing these big boys (and girls) at a reserve, such as Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. You’ll meet more than crocs here though, so if other reptiles, mammals and birds take your fancy, Hartley’s has them all.

For a day out that’s not so wild, but just as full of nature, try a trip to Kuranda. This gorgeous little village is reached by jumping on the exciting Skyrail or Scenic Rail and experiencing sheer beauty along the journey. Once there, the friendly village atmosphere and tourist attractions will keep you occupied.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie, there’s so much to do in Cairns to get your heart racing. AJ Hackett’s bungy jumping or minjin swing will leave you with a rush of exhilaration and a smile on your face for weeks to come. White water rafting on the Barron or Tully Rivers will certainly cool you down this Christmas… among other things. White water rafting is such a thrilling experience because you actually feel as though your life might be in danger – although, it’s not. The great team who guide you down the river have got your back and can almost guarantee you’ll be back for more.

Hot air ballooning is another ideal Christmas treat. Imagine the delight of seeing the early-morning sun illuminate the expansive beauty of the Atherton Tablelands – need I say more?

Finally, there’s nothing like a true-blue Aussie Christmas day on the beach with a beer, some prawns and Dad in board shorts, sunnies and a Santa hat. Thankfully, Cairns has some of the most amazing beaches in the world, so Christmas in Cairns will be amazing too!
